Work by Lillian Florsheim was widely shown in galleries and in museums during her lifetime. A summary list is provided here, with a more detailed list by each year available.
Main Street Gallery - 1966
An early show included 29 works, including several string pieces, and was reported as “Mrs. Florsheim Opts to Sculpt,” by Patricia Moore.
Galerie Krugier - 1967
A group exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland. Florsheim showed 19 pieces, and several reviews were found.
Musee des 20 Jahrhunderts - 1967
This group show in Paris was accompanied by a catalog/book, Kinetika . Other artists included Marcel Duchamp, Geneviève Claisse, Cruz Diaz, Karl Gerstner, Herbin, Kassak, Le Parc, Morellet,Soto, Tinguely, Tomasello, Vasarely and Yvaral.
New Horizons - 1967
The New Horizons Exhibition was a show in Chicago, discussed in “A Perfectionist with Unflawed Plastic,” by Jack Burnham, Art Scene No 4, January 1968. A catalog of the show was located.
Galerie Denise Rene - 1968
Florsheim’s first solo show at Galerie Denise Rene in Paris; she had previously participated in two group shows at the Galerie in 1964 and 1967. The catalog is an excellent resource, listing 24 pieces shown and 18 images.
Galerie Denise Rene, Hans Meyer - 1969
Show at a joint gallery of Denise Rene and Hans Meyer, in Krefeld, Germany. Included in the catalog were a range of works, including examples of Tube Bundles, Columns, Rods Through Planes, Rod Bundles, Rods and Planes.
Museum of Contemporary Art - 1970
Lillian’s participated as a solo exhibitor along with two other solo exhibits. This major show had extensive coverage, reviewed as “Sculptures in Plastic,” in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Main Street Gallery - 1970
This show ran concurrently with the MCA show. The catalog includes pieces shown at both the gallery and the museum, unclear which was where. A catalog was found along with extensive press coverage.
Pyramid Gallery - 1971
Held in Washington DC, the show included one Wall Piece. Works from this show were donated to the Smithsonian Museum and the Hirschhorn.
Circle Gallery - 1972
Held in New Orleans, this exhibition included two large Portals, likely also at the earlier MCA show. Reviewed in The Times- Picayune, New Orleans.
Mundelein College - 1973
Titled Constructivism , this show featured five of her pieces, and other works from her collection, and five of her own works.
Fairweather Hardin Gallery - 1980
Many images were found from this large Chicago show.
Patricia Moore Gallery -1980
The first of many Lilllian shows at this Aspen gallery. Information on this show, including a letter from Patricia Moore, was found in the scrapbook.
Galerie Simone Stern - 1981
Documentation for this New Orleans show listed 21 pieces and sales.
Northern Illinois University - 1981
A significant catalog was produced for this exhibition at the Swen Parson Gallery, largely dedicated to her collection; only one image of Florsheim’s work.
New Orleans Museum of Art - 1984
This exhibition, “The Geometric Impulse”, was well photographed and largely of her collection.
Loyola University - 1985
This show included a wide range of work from early sculptures to late columns. The documentation is extensive, with a listing of work and dates.
Galerie Denise Rene - 1985
This show, “les femmes et l’abstraction constructive,” featured fourteen notable women artists, each represented by a single work. Florsheim is included with Anni Albers, Martha Boto, Marcelle Can, Genevieve Claisse, Sonia Delaunay, Aurelie Nemours, Edda Renouf, Bridget Riley, and Sophie Tauber-Arp.
