C. Early String
Florsheim began to study how to use string to make form with Hugo Wevber at the Institute of Design in 1951. Throughout the 1950s, she continued to make studies using this technique. Little is known about these, most of the information coming from an early 1953 photograph of her studio, where several of these pieces can be seen. "Complex Armature" (C3b) was one of her more accomplished studies, and was photographed in detail by her son-in-law, Bertrand Goldberg. "Over Four Discs" (C4) was a transitional work leading to her more accomplished string pieces done in the mid- 1960s. Sadly, it appears all these early string works are lost.
