O. Construction

In these works, the idea of a frame was extended to smaller works. In this, yet another conceptual organization, the frame operates essentially as a container, an exterior geometric shape. Varied objects are set within the interior, sometimes complicated with moving rods or small balls that shift with movement.

The allowance for small movement is unique in these works. In only a few pieces do the internals move fully, typically the movement is limited and slight.

Movement here causes noise, and also small changes in the piece. These works raise a contemporary question about the nature of the art object, prevalent at the time: Which is primary - the arrangement or the operation?
