“I am trying to create illusionary form, something that changes as the viewer moves around.”
— Lillian Florsheim, March 27, 1966

These works are optically rich, with a largely two-dimensional view that changes with movement by the viewed. The The actual construction is typically that of a shadow box, about 3" deep, with a top layer (for many of the works) of clear rods placed close together, making a translucent and distorting surface. The pattern comes from a taped set of lines underneath.

These works are visually active— changing the image as the viewer moves, with a shimmering effect from an otherwise static object. They were likely inspired by work done in Kinetic Art and Op Art, known to Florsheim from shows at Denise Réné's gallery in Paris.
