F. Late String

These accomplished works were a significant advance over her earlier string studies. Here, the armature is made of Plexiglas planes, drilled with holes for the string.

The armature is made of Plexiglas solids attached to a base. The placement of the drilled solid controls the curved surface, which only emerges after the piece has been strung. Significant previsualizing was required, as the armature was drilled and assembled prior to any stringing work.

Florsheim was quite familiar with the string work of Naum Gabo, having purchased one of his works, shown prominently in her home. Instead of Gabo's typical use of a curved armature, her curved shapes were made by the location of each drilled solid, particularly placed.

Curiously, these works overlap with work on other abstract shapes (group D), suggesting the mid 1960s were particularly fervent period for Florsheim.
